Travelling has made me more creative... and really overwhelmed
Plus all my freelancing adventures in March
If this series isn’t for you, that’s totally fine. You can update your preferences and pick what you want to hear about here.

Welcome to the first issue of Freelancing Adventures.
One year ago, I put this post on LinkedIn, declaring I was going to try to break into the travel industry. And since June 2025, I’ve been documenting that journey in my series Becoming a Travel Writer.
Soon after writing this LinkedIn post, I sent my first pitch. An idea that eventually went on to be commissioned by BBC Travel, featured in their top 10 stories of 2025 and is currently nominated for an award for consumer feature of the year!
I’ve been published in print twice, in The i Paper and Derbyshire Life magazine, and I’ve been on assignment in Morocco, the Peak District and Cornwall.
I’m not saying any of this to show off. I’m saying it because a year ago, I didn’t know if it was possible, and if you’re thinking the same, I want you to know that it is.
But here’s the thing.
Writing travel features alone isn’t paying enough to live on. So now that I have a foot in the door, it’s time to take on broader freelance work and find new ways to make an income from creative work I enjoy.
This series will no longer be just about Becoming a Travel Writer; it will be about all of my Freelancing Adventures.
📣 Are you a freelancer, remote worker or digital nomad? I'd love to hear from you. I'm looking to collaborate with people on different topics for this series. Drop an introduction on this note and let's connect! 📣
Each month, I’ll cover:
What projects I worked on and how I found them
What I did to move my business forward
Resources I discovered
What I earned
Goals for the month ahead
Pitch emails
Maybe interviews or tips with other digital nomads or freelancing experts
…and whatever else I can think of
Every quarter, I’ll share a deeper breakdown of what I’m spending, earning and working towards.
The idea is to document this in real time, so you can see what building a freelance, location-independent life looks like behind the scenes.
Freelancing can be a bit lonely, and I’m sure most of us are figuring it out as we go (right?!). If there’s something you’d like me to cover or would find useful, just let me know.
I see this series being a mix of free and paid posts. If you’re in a position to support, I’d love to have you along for the full ride. For just £4.50 a month, you get access to everything in the archive, freelancing and travel guides and access to my inbox — ask me anything.
Right, let's get into March’s freelancing adventures…
